9. What is Spaces?

“Space cannot exist by itself. It involves and affects all those within. It describes our past, defines our present and forecasts our future.”- excerpt from the editorial of the first issue of SPACES.

From the cave dwellers to the Harrappan Society, the Egyptians to the Ancient Greeks and on to modern society, people have always been known to strive for better and comfortable living standards. Living in a better society begins with better dwellings, initiated through innovative designs and improved construction materials, methods and skills. This has always been in the forefront of development in any society.

Nepal too in this respect is no exception. Nepal has always been rich in Art and Culture. This is evident from the surroundings we have inherited from our ancestors.

However, although the desire for better living has always existed, this alone is not sufficient when it comes to practice. Access to recent developments, modern design trends, appropriate construction materials and skills are the basic factors that count today.

Keeping the above facts in perspective, SPACES intends to bring an awareness among the targeted groups about the need of suitable designs, construction materials and methods.

General Objectives:

• To provide information to all concerned with the building construction industry, about current trends, techniques, developments and achievements in this field.
• Create awareness among people, about the importance of appropriate exterior and interior designs as well as selection of construction materials.
• Promote Art, Craft and Floriculture as an integral part of a complete design.
• Give an insight of Nepal's cultural heritage and the importance of their conservation.
• Develop a venue for interaction among the target groups.
• Provide a platform for construction material manufacturers and suppliers to expose their products directly to the related User and Designers.
• Update Designers, Contractors and Builders on the construction materials currently available in the market
• Promote present designs / designers / construction materials / construction techniques.
• Provide timely information at an affordable price.

  Target Group:
• Architects, engineers, builders, interior designers, conservationists, students of architecture/engineering/interior design, floriculturists, concerned material and equipment manufacturers as well as suppliers, art and artists, crafts and craftsmen, furniture and furnishing, and house owners.
  Vision:
• SPACES intends to become a platform of interaction and information for all that is related to the ‘Art, Architecture & Design’ of Nepal and Nepalese all over the world.
